Buried deep under the mountains of Snowdonia, Llechwedd deep slate mine is one of North Wales’ most popular tourist attractions (well, it takes all sorts…) Llechwedd approached us to help light up sections of cavernous chambers, hand carved over centuries to mine the slate, as well as parts of the visitor centre, at ground level.
Lighting cavernous chambers
We provided over 30 luminaries for the two locations, using energy efficient SP-12, large LED Bulkheads within the tunnelling sections, each with a 1000-hour salt spray certification that provided confidence for enduring performance - ahoy there matey! Within the visitor’s centre, SW-10 lights were used as pendants, suspended individually from the rafters to complement the rugged industrial aesthetic. Even underground, we were still able to cast a bright, glorious light on proceedings, something we’ve been doing for eight decades.
