Scotland’s busiest crematorium, far from being a dark and macabre setting, is a beautiful B-listed building set on the outskirts of Glasgow. For over 70 years, it has been lit by almost 30 bespoke, decorative copper light fittings. In a bid to cut energy costs, and restore Daldowie to its original glory, we were approached to renovate, and refurbish the existing luminaries.
Renovating and refurbishing the existing luminaries
In a few scant weeks, we stripped, spruced and re-sprayed every light, while installing new energy efficient LEDs. Alongside, we generated a computer calculated lighting scheme that ensured the new fittings would collectively produce the same quality, and intensity of light as previously, despite the energy saving made through the use of LED bulbs. Now reinstated in each chapel wing, Daldowie boasts bespoke luminaries that shine with all their former glory but protect the planet to boot.
