12 YEARS GOING STRONG
Hazel Ewart-Mills’ home was built twelve years ago with J&G Coughtrie lights installed on the exterior from the very beginning. Twelve SP-12 bulkhead lights were dotted around the exterior, offering solid yet stylish lighting to the rural location.
Settled amongst the hills and lochs of Argyll, the lights have lasted well. All save for one that was accidentally smashed.
“The house was a new build house in Argyll, but when I was looking at the components on the flange, I saw there was a brand name” he told us. “I thought, with a bit of research, maybe we can replace this. We can maybe get a new glass for it.”
That was exactly the case. David was able to purchase a new glass casing for Hazel’s SP bulkhead.
held its own against storm amy
David said: “There’s a lot of weather out there. The storms hit hard. I mean that last one, Amy, there were tremendous wind speeds and it’s a lot of rain obviously, and these fittings are still in remarkably good condition.”
Over a decade of volatile coastal weather, with the salt, the rain, the wind, the lights have held together pretty well – but it wasn’t Storm Amy or the nearby Loch Craignish that outdid this particular J&G Coughtrie light.
“This is the only one broken, only because the garage door swung round and smacked the glass.”
The SP-12s are our most versatile light. With a design that goes back to the 1950s, the SP-12 can be wall and ceiling-mounted for indoors and outdoors. Today, our SP-12s are fitted with LEDs for better energy efficiency.
Rather than replace the entire outdoor light, David was able to contact us at J&G Coughtrie and arrange to have a new piece of glass fitted in the flange of the SP fitting.
“Phenomenal service”
David said: “The people were absolutely brilliant. Couldn’t be more helpful. ‘Here, we can sort this for you.’
“I can’t fault the service, it’s been phenomenal. So, I got the flange, left it with Duncan, and he gave me a replacement and kept me informed. Brilliant,” he said. “It’s refreshing, all I can say. It’s nice to be able to speak to someone having just had issues, technological issues, you know.”
Twelve years on from being built, the J&G Coughtrie SP-12s are still going strong in Argyll, illuminating the area with style and solid engineering. The fact that David and Hazel enjoyed a quick fix and excellent customer service is just part of the J&G Coughtrie promise.
“ZERO ISSUES AND ZERO MAINTENANCE”
“I was very impressed with the quality and the service from J&G Coughtrie. All of my exterior lights are provided by J&G Coughtrie and have now been up for over 10 years in that wonderful Argyll coastal weather and salt. I’ve had zero issues and zero maintenance.”
